Employers are entitled to maintain and enforce discipline within their business. However, they must always bear in mind that they need to act consistently, proportionately and also follow the correct procedures when an issue arises.

There are very rigid procedures laid down for dealing with disciplinary and dismissal issues and whenever an employer is considering disciplining or dismissing an employee they should always consider taking advice before a decision is made.
