A Passage to India
02/11/2007Lakeland Cricketer and trainee solicitor, Peter Dodd has successfully been selected for a place in the British squad for the first ever Lawyers Cricket World Cup.
The World Cup will be taking place in Hyderabad, India starting on the 30th December with the final scheduled for the 7th January. Competing against the British Lawyers team will be sides from other major cricketing nations including India, Sri Lanka, Australia, South Africa and Pakistan.
Peter, a trainee solicitor at Temple Heelis who currently plays for Ambleside Cricket Club successfully came through a tough selection process which included three trial matches in London. Though Peter was up against solicitors, barristers and other legal professionals from throughout the UK, his outstanding batting skills guaranteed his selection for the British Lawyers team. The team is comprised of mainly barristers, Peter being the only lawyer selected for the side. Remarkably, Peter is the only team member to be selected from outside London.
Commenting on his selection Peter said “To be given the chance to represent your profession and your country in any sport is a real honour; it's something you dream of doing when you first start playing sport and it's an opportunity that I never imagined would come my way. I'm thrilled to have been selected for the Lawyers' World Cup and, win or lose, I'm sure it will be a memorable experience”.
The Partners at Temple Heelis have also sponsored Peter by making a special contribution towards the cost of the trip.
Roger Broady, Senior Partner at Temple Heelis said “Whether it is professional or personal goals, we’ve always been eager to support our staff to fulfil their ambitions. What Peter has achieved is quite special and we are really proud to be able to sponsor him”.
