John grew up and was educated in the South East, beginning his legal career there in 1993, qualifying in 1995.
He became a partner of a renowned practice in Kent, but in 2006 decided to relocate to The Lake District with his wife and two children, joining Temple Heelis LLP at their Kendal office in 2007.
John has specialised in family matters for many years and particularly enjoys dealing with financial cases, often involving a complex or high-value element, such as farming cases or those involving company ownership/assets, both in relation to married and unmarried couples.
Representing clients in respect of disputes relating to their children also forms a significant part of John’s caseload, having considerable experience in dealing with heavyweight Children Act cases involving, public and private law, parents, grandparents and other family members.
In 2008 John also qualified as a collaborative lawyer, in order to provide a fully client-focused, non-confrontational alternative to resolving family disputes. He was the first lawyer (jointly with a colleague from another firm) to obtain this qualification in the area.
John regularly presents seminars, particularly for the local schools in the area, and writes occasional articles for the press. In his spare time he can be found playing guitar and singing with his band New Tricks, walking the Cumbrian fells with his family or trying in vain to hit a golf ball in a straight line!
